Mussoorie: BJP, Congress leaders come to blows at Independence Day
function.
An
ugly spat marred the Independence Day celebrations in Mussoorie when
two politicians came to blows at a flag hoisting ceremony. BJP MLA
Ganesh Joshi and Manmohan Singh Malla, Mussoorie municipal chairman and a
Congress leader, both wanted to hoist the flag on their own.
The
two leaders climbed the podium to try and hoist the flag. They started
arguing and tried to push each other away at the Independence Day
celebrations.
They
kept on shouting while the people who had come for the Independence Day
celebrations looked on. Some people tried to separate the duo, but both
of them tried to snatch the rope and pull it to unfurl the flag.

Isn’t
Twitter merely emulating the trolls in Indian Parliament?.
The
only other thing that is a constant in the present Lok Sabha apart from
speaker Meira Kumar’s back-from-a-vipassana-vacation smile, is the
promise that it will be adjourned at least thrice in a single day.
It’s
difficult to see a reason why our MPs, who have to pretend to be
employed for just a third of the year, should demand so many breaks in a
single work day. The
logic behind a body like the parliament’s functioning is fairly simple –
facilitating governance through passing legislatures and making sure
that the government doesn’t run amok under the critical watch of a body
in political opposition.
However, expecting an essentially political
organisation to function exclusively on those lines is probably as
realistic as expecting Bollywood to stop making actresses lip sync to
songs playing out of mountain tops and other scientifically inexplicable
locations.

New Delhi:
CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta has claimed that a senior Petroleum Ministry officer was transferred by Minister M Veerappa Moily over the recent gas price hike issue. Dasgupta made these claims in a letter to the PM Manmohan Singh saying that Moily decided to get rid of bureaucrats who stood up to him.
Dasgupta, who has been opposing the government's decision to raise natural gas prices, said Moily has "decided to get rid of inconvenient bureacrats who are standing up to him. By this order, the mala fide of the Petroleum Minister is completely established".
He said by "abruptly" transferring the bureaucrat, who was Joint Secretary (Exploration) for over one-and-a-half years, "the government loses the expertise that the officer had gained in the subject.
