Ishrat Jahan encounter case: Ex-Gujarat top cop PP Pandey surrenders .

A day after the Supreme Court dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of PP Pandey, Gujarat's police officer on Tuesday surrendered before a CBI court.
A 1982-batch IPS officer, Pandey today appeared before the CBI court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) HS Khutwad and surrendered before the court.
Pandey has been named as an accused in the alleged staged shootout in which college girl Ishrat Jahan and her three associates were killed in Gujarat.
On Monday, an apex court bench of Justice BS Chauhan and Justice SA Bobde, while dismissing Additional Director General of Police Pandey's plea, had said: "You are an absconder earlier also. Your conduct makes you disentitled to anticipatory bail."
Pandey was Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Ahmedabad, when Ishrat, a Mumbai-based student, and her three associates - Pranesh Gopinath Pilai, Amjad Ali and Jishan Johar - were killed by the Gujarat Police in an allegedly staged shootout on June 15, 2004. The Gujarat Police described them as Pakistani fidayeens who came from Jammu and Kashmir to assassinate Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
Seven Gujarat policemen, including Pandey, have been named as accused and charged with murder and criminal conspiracy by the CBI which is probing the case under Gujarat High Court orders.
