Moily in doubt over amendment to RTI Bill, says timing not right: sources

New Delhi: Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister M Veerappa Moily has expressed doubts over the amendment to the Right to Information Bill saying the timing may not be right, considering the poor perception about politicians, said sources. The amendment, aimed at keeping political parties out of the RTI ambit, is likely to be taken up by the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
The government and the Opposition seemed to be united on this issue and a Cabinet note said that as political parties are neither public bodies nor Constitutional bodies and they do not take government funds, hence should be kept out of the RTI loop.

30 percent Lok Sabha MPs have criminal cases against them: report.

About 30 percent of Lok Sabha members and 17 percent of Rajya Sabha members have criminal cases pending against them, said a report which noted that the probability of winning an election by a candidate with criminal record is higher than that of one with a clean background.

Shiv Sena members top the list, the report released Monday. The joint report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and the National Election Watch (NEW) was based on affidavits filed by candidates during elections since 2004.

MP Chief Minister faces embarrassment as 2 ministers accused of bribery.

The Shivraj Singh Chouhan government in Madhya Pradesh is facing an embarrassment over a diary which allegedly names two senior ministers Rajendra Shukla and Culture Minister Laxmikant Sharma getting huge pay offs.

The dairy was recovered during raids on mining barons Sudhir Sharma and Dalip Suryawanshi in June, 2012. Meanwhile the Congress has demanded resignations of both the ministers. "The Chief Minister should immediately take the resignation of the two ministers, said Ajay Singh, Leader of opposition, Madhya Pradesh."

WB panchayat election results: Counting underway, TMC maintains lead.

Kolkata: 11:11 am: After the first three hours of counting, the Trinamool Congress continues to lead in 497 gram panchayat seats, followed by the Left Front, which is now leading in 262 seats.

 

In Bankura, the TMC was leading in 45 seats while West Midnapore, the party was leading in 53 seats. The TMC took a huge lead in East Midnapore, where it is ahead in 51 seats, followed by the Left, which is ahead in 10 seats. The Congress is leading in 162 seats in all.

Bodh Gaya serial blasts: One person detained, Serial blast in Bodh gaya, Bodh gaya, One suspect, latest update, Today's news.

One person has been detained by the National Investigation Agency in connection with the serial blasts at the Mahabodhi temple on Sunday in which two monks were injured.

 DIG, Magadh Range, Nayyer Hasnain Khan said an identity card was found within the temple premises on Sunday on the basis of which the person was detained.

The NIA, Khan said, was interrogating him.

"One suspect hailing from Barachatti block in Gaya has been detained and we are questioning him. We have been analysing the footage and based on that some more people would be questioned soon," a senior police official said.

"All the CCTV cameras in the Mahabodhi temple premises were fully functional. As you must have seen in the CCTV footage, both state security personnel and temple's own security personnel were present. I don't think there was any lapse on security front," the official said.
