Sonia Gandhi meets Congress leaders over Food Security Ordinance.
Top
Congress leaders on Saturday met UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi at her
residence in the national capital to discuss the next step in the battle
for the Food Security Bill. The Congress President wants the Food
Security Ordinance to be implemented before the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and
has also called all the party chief ministers and state chiefs.
The
meeting is being held at a time when the party is projecting the scheme
seeking to provide cheap foodgrains to 82 crore people as a game
changer in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
The
government has argued that the ordinance has been brought because the
Bill would take at least three months to roll out. But experts said that
with ground realities and poor infrastructure it may be difficult for
the UPA to reap any benefits and implementing the ordinance might be a
challenge.
